AATCC Review — Safer Treatments to Create Water & Oil Repellent Fabrics

In the July/August 2023 issue of AATCC Review, Scott Efird of Efird Textile Consulting was quoted in the publication's discussion of PFAS alternatives for textile repellency.

The article examined the textile industry's transition away from PFAS chemistry and the technical challenges associated with maintaining water and oil repellency. In the "PFAS Alternatives" section, Scott provided industry perspective on commercially available PFAS-free durable water-repellent technologies, their performance relative to C6 fluorocarbon chemistry, and the continuing challenge of achieving oil repellency without fluorinated chemistry.
